TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2025 Asia University Rankings released on Wednesday (Nov. 6) ranked National Taiwan University (NTU, 台灣大學) as the top-ranked university in Taiwan at 26th place in the region. Taipei Medical University (TMU, 台北醫學大學) emerged as the only private institution from Taiwan on the list, securing the 122nd spot.
Taiwan boasts eight universities among Asia's top 100, with five others ranking between 101 and 200. Although NTU remains the highest-ranked in Taiwan, it slipped five places from its previous position. The other top-ranking universities include National Tsing Hua University (清華大學) at 39th, National Cheng Kung University (成功大學) at 41st, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (陽明交通大學) at 42nd.
QS data revealed that among the Taiwanese universities included, 17 improved their rankings, 16 saw a decline, 13 maintained their positions, and two entered the rankings for the first time. While Taiwanese universities enjoy a strong reputation among international employers and scholars, the data indicates a need for improvement in research-related metrics.
