TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) expects thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, and heavy rainfall across Taiwan from Wednesday to Friday (Aug. 16-18).
As a low-pressure system gradually approaches, the weather will likely become turbulent. Strong gusts and short-duration heavy rain are expected in various regions, the CWB said.
According to radar observations from the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR), a quasi-stationary convection band over the East China Sea will bring frequent lightning near the offshore waters of Keelung's northern coast.
The prevailing southwest winds will result in heavy rainfall in the windward central and southern regions. There is a high possibility of localized heavy rain, especially in areas along the coast.
Highs ranging between 32 to 34 degrees Celsius are expected in terms of temperature. The temperatures will remain high before the onset of rain.
Vigorous convection is often accompanied by thunder, lightning, and heavy rainfall and may lead to strong wind gusts and even hail. Rapid rises in water levels may occur downstream. In areas with poor drainage, flooding is also likely to occur. Please prioritize safety.
The unstable weather pattern will persist until Saturday, so carrying raingear and refraining from venturing into mountainous areas are highly advisable.
