TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je pointed out on Tuesday (Aug. 1) that the party's misleading English slogan for the presidential election resulted from "cultural differences."

The TPP faced a barrage of criticism regarding its English slogan for the upcoming presidential election, which read, "Vote White, Vote Right," as white is the representative color of the TPP. The slogan raised concerns among foreign observers who interpreted it as endorsing white supremacy.

Ko argued that the Chinese version,  "Vote White, Vote Right" (票投白色力量, 票投正確方向), poses no issues. However, when translated into English, it becomes "problematic."

He attributed the controversy to a "culture gap, cultural difference."

Nevertheless, Ko emphasized that the TPP needs to find someone to proofread. "We need to find a person whose mother tongue is English to, at the very least, conduct a review," Ko told reporters.

The TPP explained that the intended meaning of the slogan is "voting for the white power of the People's Party is the right choice." In response to the backlash, the TPP has removed the slogan to prevent further circulation.
