TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Following the departure of Typhoon Doksuri, Typhoon Khanun has already strengthened into a moderate typhoon over the weekend.

The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) expects the typhoon to be at its closest proximity to Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 1-2), prompting caution for unstable weather.

At 8 a.m. on Monday, Typhoon Khanun's center was located 1,120 kilometers southeast of Taipei, moving in a north-northwest direction at 19 kilometers per hour, the CWB reported.

Localized rain and showers are expected in Northern Taiwan, while rain is also forecasted in the western regions. Those in the eastern regions should exercise caution due to the Foehn wind's leeward position.

From Thursday to Sunday, the southwestern winds may bring rainfall to the central and southern regions, with the intensity of the rain depending on the strength of the southwestern winds.

The public is advised to pay attention to the latest weather updates. For the northern and eastern regions, expect partly cloudy conditions with localized brief thundershowers in the afternoon.

While the probability of Typhoon Khanun directly approaching Taiwan is slim, its outer circulation could still bring unstable weather. Therefore, the public is advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant.
