NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hou You-yi, the Kuomintang (KMT) presidential nominee and current Mayor of New Taipei City, expressed his willingness on Friday to respect the party's invitation to attend the upcoming swearing-in ceremony.

Hou's statement came during the 2023 New Taipei City Fly Higher Film Festival press conference held in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

As the KMT sets its sights on the 2024 election, plans are underway to invite Hou, the legislative nominees, county and city chiefs from within the party, and other prominent party members to the ceremony. The event, scheduled for Saturday, May 20, will unfold at the KMT's headquarters.

When questioned by reporters about his attendance at the ceremony, Hou emphasized his commitment to the party's decisions, stating, "The event is organized by the party. I will respect what the party plans to do."
Hou's presence at the swearing-in ceremony holds symbolic significance as the KMT aspires to reclaim political power.

The inclusion of legislative nominees, county and city chiefs, and other key party members underscores the importance of the event within the party's strategy.

Notably, Hou is considered a moderate choice from the KMT to address cross-strait relations. When asked about his approach, he reaffirmed his deep-rooted connection to Taiwan and the Republic of China, declaring, "I was born in a rural part of Taiwan, and I love Taiwan, the Republic of China. This fact will never change."

Furthermore, Hou outlined his vision for the country, expressing his commitment to safeguarding Taiwan and promoting its international visibility. He stated, "I will protect our country to make it a better place, and let the world see us. We will work together to bring peace, prosperity, and sustainability to this land."

As the anticipation builds for the swearing-in ceremony, Hou's participation signifies his alignment with the party's goals, while his stance on cross-strait relations reflects his dedication to Taiwan's interests and a brighter future for the nation.
