NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je secured his party nomination for the presidential election on Wednesday (May 17).
Ko, the sole contender for the nomination, plans to hold a press conference on Saturday at the Golden Tulip Fab Hotel in Tamsui, New Taipei City. The gathering will be open to 2,000 Ko's supporters.
During a recent photo shoot for his election campaign at a studio, Ko revealed his campaign slogan, emphasizing his vision of building a peaceful country and society.
He expressed his commitment to advocating for Taiwan's self-governance and maintaining peaceful relations across the Taiwan Strait on the international level.
At the national level, he aims to foster unity among the Taiwanese government and its people. Ko told TVBS reporters: "Our goal is to achieve harmony, reconciliation, and peace."
Before entering politics, Ko served as a doctor at the National Taiwan University Hospital. This connection influenced his decision to choose Tamsui as the location for his press conference.
Drawing inspiration from George Leslie Mackay, the first Presbyterian missionary to visit Taiwan in the 19th century, Ko explained, "Tamsui was where Mackay initially arrived."
He added: "As we both share a medical background, his remarkable contributions and recognition while residing here serve as the best role model for the Taiwanese people."
