TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A once-renowned Taiwanese traditional restaurant on Bade Road in Songshan district has been ordered by the Taipei District Court (TPD) on Wednesday (Dec. 20) to vacate its premises due to unpaid rent totaling five and a half months.

The restaurant, which was favored by non-partisans in its early years, temporarily closed after the founder's death in February 2022 and reopened in May of the same year on Renai Road in Taipei. The move to Bade Road in 2021 was necessitated by structural issues in the Renai Road location's kitchen.

The landlord claimed that the restaurant, which had been occupying the premises since June 15, 2021, consistently failed to pay rent, accumulating a total debt of NT$760,000.

After receiving no response to their notice to terminate the lease agreement, the landlord initiated a lawsuit seeking to regain the property, compensation for unpaid rent, and monthly rental payments of NT$140,000 until the property was returned.

Following a court hearing, the judge ruled in favor of the landlord, terminating the lease agreement and ordering the restaurant to vacate the premises while continuing to pay rent until it does so.
