Taiwan mobile eyes full network integration by 2024 end

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Mobile announced on Thursday (Dec. 7) that since merging with Taiwan Star Telecom, it has worked tirelessly to complete a full network integration by the end of 2024. The company welcomed constructive criticism and support as it forges ahead with the massive technical undertaking.

The statement was in response to the National Communications Commission (NCC) receiving 31 customer complaints regarding the merger, with ten citing issues related to communication link quality.

Taiwan Mobile has initiated network integration operations since the Dec. 1 merger, deploying thousands of engineers to conduct area-by-area network testing and progressively consolidating base stations. 

This expansive effort has already shown results, as the company successfully transitioned Taiwan Star Telecom users from their original 3G services to Taiwan Mobile's 3G base stations, enhancing 3G coverage by 40%, particularly enhancing voice and messaging services in remote areas.

Furthermore, Taiwan Mobile has decommissioned older and less efficient 3G base station equipment from Taiwan Star Telecom to further its energy conservation and carbon reduction goals while eliminating Chinese-made equipment. 

Improvements in signal strength and internet speeds for former Taiwan Star Telecom customers were noticeable within a week. The completion of the expansion in the 2100MHz band has also increased available bandwidth for 4G by 10%, enhancing speeds for both 4G and 5G Taiwan Mobile users.

As the integration of the 4G and 5G wireless networks continues, original Taiwan Star Telecom customers will enjoy higher-quality 5G mobile communication services without swapping SIM cards.
