Helicopter cleans Taipower tower; false alarm reported (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Civil Aeronautics Administration confirmed on Thursday (Dec. 7) that a civilian helicopter employed by Taipower was engaged in routine maintenance work cleaning insulators on a power tower, which was fully operational during the procedure.
Earlier in the day, at approximately 10 a.m., the New Taipei City Fire Department responded to a report from the public claiming that a helicopter had collided with an electrical tower near the Guanyin Mountain Tunnel in the Wugu District.
Upon arrival, emergency teams found neither smoke nor debris. It was the Taipower-hired helicopter carrying out tower cleaning operations. The New Taipei City Fire Department ascertained that the reported incident was a false alarm and urged the public to avoid spreading rumors or misinformation.
In an advisory, the New Taipei City Fire Department Second Brigade reminded the public that providing detailed information, such as the kilometer mark and the direction on highways, facilitates first responders in quickly locating the correct site for potential emergencies. This could help prevent delays in rescue operations.
