TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Koinu was located 755 km east-southeast of the Hengchun Peninsula on early Monday (Oct. 2), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The storm intensified into a moderate typhoon that day, leading to a potential sea warning at midnight and a land warning on Tuesday morning.
On Monday, expect sporadic showers in northern Taiwan, while isolated thunderstorms are likely in the southern and central mountain areas during the afternoon.
Starting tomorrow, the typhoon's outer circulation will visibly influence Taiwan, bringing showers and localized heavy rain in mountainous areas.
Typhoon Koinu will likely get close to Taiwan on Wednesday and Thursday, bringing showers and localized heavy rain to the Greater Taipei area, the eastern region, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
Eastern Taiwan, in particular, must remain vigilant against localized torrential rain.
The CWA cautioned against long swells and strong winds as the typhoon approached. Eastern coastal areas will experience swells above 5 meters, prompting caution for those planning seaside activities.
As Typhoon Koinu approaches Taiwan and may potentially make landfall in the southeast of the country, the public is advised to stay updated on weather information and prepare for its impact.
