TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The northeast monsoon will be the dominant factor affecting weather nationwide during the 3-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, leading to isolated brief showers in northern Taiwan. The central and southern regions are expected to have better odds for Moon viewing, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) stated on Friday (Sept. 29).
Starting Friday, increased humidity on the western windward side will result in occasional scattered showers in areas north of Hsinchu, the eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula. In other areas, partly cloudy to mostly clear skies with the possibility of isolated brief thunderstorms are expected during the afternoon.
With the Mid-Autumn Festival falling on Saturday, concerns arise regarding Moon-watching conditions influenced by the northeast monsoon. The CWA forecasted that central and southern regions offer better chances of enjoying a clear and bright moonlit night. Residents in the northern areas should seize opportunities when the clouds disperse.
From Sunday to the following Monday, the northeast monsoon will strengthen slightly, leading to a minor temperature drop of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius and occasional brief showers in the northern regions. Showers may also occur sporadically in Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu.
The northeast monsoon will weaken next Tuesday, resulting in reduced humidity. However, the northern coast, the Greater Taipei area, and the island's eastern half may still experience isolated brief showers. It's advisable to have rain gear handy throughout the week.
In addition, a tropical disturbance could potentially form in early October. However, the development and trajectory of such a disturbance remain uncertain, and further observation is needed.
