TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Moderate Typhoon Khanun, the sixth this season, is on a steady path toward Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) announced on Wednesday (Aug. 2). The bureau expects to issue a land alert at approximately 5:30 p.m on Wednesday (Aug. 2).

Regional leaders of four municipalities — Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan — have agreed to determine whether to call a typhoon holiday due to anticipated heavy rainfall later today in northern Taiwan.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an stated that the decision will follow established procedures and standard criteria for suspending work and classes, with citizens' safety as the utmost consideration.

Echoing Mayor Chiang's sentiment, Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng indicated that the increase in rainfall across Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan will encourage consistent decisions for the public's convenience.

Both mayors assured that trust-worthy mechanisms are in place for such weather challenges. The looming Typhoon Khanun is the test for this collaborative regional readiness.
