TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Wanan 46 air raid drill was slated for Monday (July 24) in northern Taiwan after the siren went off at 1:30 p.m. Authorities reminded the general public violations of the drill regulations could face a fine of NT＄30,000 to NT＄150,000.
Taiwan conducted the first batch of Wanan air raid drills earlier that day amid eerily empty streets in northern regions, including Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Yilan.
The drills will take place in southern Taiwan the next day, eastern Taiwan and outlying counties on Wednesday, and central Taiwan on Thursday, all at the same time from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
All metro lines operated normally with restricted entry and exit; city buses stopped at roadsides or platforms for passengers to disembark for evacuation. At the same time, motorists, drivers, and bike users were required to halt any movement after parking at the roadside during the 30-minute drill.
Since 1978, the annual Wanan drills have helped prepare the nation's emergency responses in case of war, aiming to raise public awareness and strengthen civil defense.
