TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The recent announcement of winning numbers for Taiwan's receipt lottery turned into an unexpected windfall for some lucky individuals who discovered they had received 100 times the amount they had won.
Excitement filled social media platforms on June 6 as prize winners shared their extraordinary fortunes. However, their joy was short-lived as the HUA NAN Bank promptly acknowledged the glitch and took immediate action to rectify the error.
After receiving a substantial sum in their bank accounts, numerous individuals took to online forums to express their astonishment.
A screenshot on social media showed a bank transfer of NT$120,000 credited to a winner's account during the prize redemption window, which had just opened earlier that day. However, to their dismay, within a few hours, the funds were abruptly deducted back to NT$1,200.
Several other receipt holders encountered similar discrepancies and took to the internet to share their experiences. One individual, expecting a prize of NT$500, was surprised to find NT$50,000 in their bankbook, only to be disappointed when the funds were subsequently deducted.
Another recipient was initially elated to discover NT$70,000 in their account, only to have their excitement extinguished by the reversal.
Swiftly responding to the widespread error, HUA NAN Bank promptly sent text messages to the affected winners, acknowledging the mistake and apologizing for any inconvenience caused. The bank assured recipients that the correct prize amounts had been wired to their accounts.
According to the eTax Portal under the Ministry of Finance, recipients with winning numbers have until September 5 to collect their rightful prize money.
