KMT head condemns DPP’s alleged involvement in Im.B fraud

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tensions flared during the Kuomintang's (KMT) Central Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday (May 24) as KMT Chairman Eric Chu accused Vice President Lai Ching-te of complicity in the growing Im.B scandal.

Chu highlighted the deep connections between several legislators and high-ranking members from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) with Tseng Kuo-wei, the founder of the peer-to-peer lending platform under investigation for alleged customer fraud.

Expressing his disappointment, Chu criticized Lai for failing to provide a clear explanation and declared, "This is a great shame for the Republic of China."

He demanded strong condemnation and called on the Tsai government to thoroughly investigate the involvement of influential figures and legislators within the ruling party with the country's largest scam syndicate.

Furthermore, Chu urged the DPP to refrain from utilizing the syndicate's illicit funds to deceive Taiwanese voters. In contrast, he pledged to nominate individuals of integrity and strive for victory through unity.

Nevertheless, the KMT itself is not immune to the repercussions of the Im.B scandal. Allegations have emerged linking Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an and Taoyuan Mayor San-cheng, both affiliated with the KMT, to connections with Tseng, adding to the situation's complexity.

The Im.B scandal has cast a shadow over the ruling party, subjecting its members to relentless scrutiny as the investigation unfolds.
