PINGTUNG, Taiwan (TVBS News) — Terry Gou, the founder of Foxconn and a primary presidential hopeful for the opposition Kuomintang (KMT), held a second campaign rally in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County on Tuesday (May 9) to a crowd of enthusiastic supporters.
During his speech, Gou praised the residents of Pingtung and promised to fulfill what he believes the current government could not. He also made a spiritual commitment to the local deity Mazu, vowing to ensure the peace and stability of Taiwan.
As the Kuomintang (KMT) party prepares to announce its presidential nomination on May 17, Gou is trying to showcase himself as the best choice.
He is currently on his week-long campaign trip across Taiwan and has visited Kaohsiung, where he was also met with a great reception from locals.
Gou is scheduled to appear at another campaign rally on Friday in New Taipei City's Banqiao District, and the location is just a few blocks away from City Mayor Hou You-yi's office.
Though both Gou and Hou have remained cordial in their bids to become the KMT's nominee, the choice of venue for Gou's Friday event appears a bit pointed toward his biggest contender.
