The tropical disturbance 97W poses a high-risk period for central northern and northeastern Taiwan, Wu cautioned in his Facebook post. This weather system threatens to bring severe conditions to Taiwan's most densely populated regions during the peak summer season. The meteorologist's warning comes as Taiwan enters a critical period for tropical weather monitoring and preparation.
Wu notes that 97W could reach tropical depression or mild typhoon status by Thursday (July 24) or Friday (July 25). He emphasizes that Friday (July 25) will be the peak risk period as 97W approaches Taiwan's coastline. Residents in affected regions should brace for increased wind and rain, while 97W will move northward toward the East China Sea Saturday. The meteorologist explained that this northward movement will reduce wind and rain in northern and northeastern Taiwan as the island experiences a shift to westerly and southwesterly winds.
Wu advised that after 97W moves away Sunday, central and southern Taiwan will become rainfall hotspots, with afternoon thunderstorms increasing in other areas across the island.
