TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部) announced Friday (June 27) that it has developed three measures to assist students in the U.S. who wish to study in Taiwan following recent international developments. These measures include auditing courses without degree acquisition, applying for master's and doctoral programs, and special admission for non-national students.
Although recently overturned by a federal judge, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's May directive to terminate Harvard University's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification has caused uncertainty among international students. This situation prompted the MOE to encourage local universities to offer auditing opportunities with credit certification to facilitate future academic connections.
MOE stated that students can apply for the first semester of the 2025 academic year for master's and doctoral programs. This opportunity is open to Republic of China (ROC, 中華民國) nationals whose U.S. university admission has been affected by visa cancellations. Qualified applicants should submit their documents to the MOE, which will forward them to the respective universities for admission review.
Students may also opt for enrollment in the second semester of the 2025 academic year by participating in entrance exams held from September to November this year. Schools can recruit overseas Chinese students, Hong Kong and Macau students, and other international students who cannot study in the U.S. through individual admission channels.
