TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's meteorological authorities have issued alerts for rapidly deteriorating weather conditions expected to sweep across the island beginning Wednesday evening (April 9). Weather experts warn that an approaching frontal system will significantly elevate precipitation probabilities throughout Taiwan, with forecasts calling for intense, short-duration downpours that will primarily impact the densely populated northern regions and agricultural heartland of central Taiwan.

Meteorologists predict the initial rainfall will diminish by Thursday afternoon as the weather system progresses rapidly eastward, though the absence of substantial cold air in its wake means lighter precipitation may persist. The brief respite will end abruptly when a second, more potent weather front traverses the island on Saturday, triggering widespread precipitation and potentially hazardous conditions. This powerful system threatens to generate severe thunderstorms, damaging hail, gusty winds, and torrential downpours, prompting officials to urge residents to implement appropriate safety measures. The forecast indicates conditions will improve first in northern Taiwan by Sunday, while the central, southern, and eastern regions may continue to experience intermittent showers.

The private forecasting service WeatherRisk (天氣風險), a popular source of meteorological information among Taiwanese residents, detailed these impending weather patterns on its widely-followed Facebook page. The service emphasized that a reinforcing northeast monsoon will deliver substantially cooler air across the island following Sunday's frontal passage. This atmospheric shift will trigger a marked decline in daytime temperatures, with thermometers reading between 20 to 23 degrees Celsius (68 to 73.4°F) across northern and eastern regions, while southern areas will experience slightly milder conditions between 23 to 25 degrees Celsius (73.4 to 77°F). The forecasters specifically cautioned that exposed locations in northern and northeastern Taiwan could experience particularly chilly conditions, with temperatures potentially dropping to as low as 14 degrees Celsius (57.2°F) from Sunday evening through early Monday morning.

Meteorologists anticipate weather conditions will stabilize by next week as the northeast monsoon gradually loses strength, ushering in a return to predominantly clear skies and progressively warmer daytime temperatures across the island. Weather experts advise residents to prepare for a characteristic spring pattern featuring cooler temperatures during morning and evening hours, contrasted by significantly warmer conditions during midday and afternoon periods. This diurnal temperature variation will create a need for adaptable clothing choices throughout the day.
