TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Wu Derong (吳德榮) has issued a warning about impending severe weather conditions. According to Wu, the first weather front is expected to sweep across Taiwan from Wednesday (April 9) through Thursday afternoon (April 10), carrying with it the potential for lightning, strong winds, and sudden heavy downpours throughout the region.
In his daily column, Wu pointed to European model simulations predicting partly sunny skies interspersed with clouds on Wednesday (April 9). He forecasted temperatures surpassing 30 degrees Celsius (86°F), with southern areas possibly climbing to 34 degrees Celsius (93.2°F). Looking further ahead, Wu anticipated a second weather front moving rapidly from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning, likely ushering in showers or thunderstorms alongside "severe weather" across Taiwan. By April 14, high pressure is expected to dominate, ushering in "summer-like heat" during daylight hours.
Wu also noted that despite the daytime heat, cooler temperatures are expected in the early morning and evening due to radiative cooling, with temperature swings exceeding 15 degrees Celsius (27°F). From April 16 to April 18, the high-pressure return flow is likely to maintain partly sunny skies with clouds, perpetuating the warm, summer-like atmosphere. He advised caution regarding the potential formation of fog in the early morning hours, particularly in western areas.
