TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a bid to address ongoing structural concerns, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) has engaged with Farglory Dome Co. (遠雄巨蛋) to tackle the persistent leakage problem plaguing the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋). The issue drew widespread attention after rainwater seeped through the ceiling during a Chinese Professional Baseball League game on Sunday, prompting calls for immediate action.
Since its debut in late 2023, the Taipei Dome has been beset by leaks whenever it rains, much to the dismay of fans and event-goers. Taipei's Department of Sports (台北市體育局) is set to demand an explanation from Farglory regarding the suspected causes of the leaks before considering potential penalties. Last year, the Taipei City Government reported that Farglory had pledged to finalize extensive repairs by the end of October, with a contractual agreement imposing a daily fine of NT$100,000 (about US$3,012) for ongoing leaks, capped at NT$3 million (approximately US$90,361).
Despite the promised improvements, leaks persisted, prompting the Department of Sports to levy fines on two occasions in November 2024, amounting to NT$1.9 million (around US$57,229). Mayor Chiang has underscored the urgency of resolving the leakage issue to guarantee a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all visitors to the venue. As the public keenly observes, the focus now shifts to Farglory's forthcoming response and the subsequent measures to be taken by city officials.
