NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office (新北地檢) searched the Taipei City Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division (台北市政府警察局刑事警察大隊) on Thursday (March 6) to investigate allegations of leaked personal data in a case involving actor Darren Wang (王大陸).
The investigation stems from an incident last April when Wang reportedly had a verbal altercation with an Uber driver due to communication issues. Wang allegedly complained to a man named You, who is suspected of instructing three individuals to assault the driver through an intermediary.
Police detained three suspects, Lin, Peng, and Li, on Wednesday for allegedly stalking and assaulting the driver, subsequently transferring them to the prosecutors office for further questioning. Prosecutors ordered the release of them on bail of NT$50,000 each, citing their involvement in the incident.
Media reports indicated that last year, the suspects followed the driver in two vehicles to Zhonghe District (中和區), New Taipei City. Lin allegedly attacked the driver while Peng recorded the assault, and Li stood by without intervening.
Concerns remain over how the suspects obtained the victim's information, with prosecutors suspecting police involvement in the data leak. The probe aimed to determine if police officers disclosed information about an Uber driver's whereabouts, sparking public concern over potential misconduct by government units.
