TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chinese eyewear company MOHK (摩今眼鏡) released a statement on Wednesday (March 5) addressing its Taiwanese brand ambassador Darren Wang's (王大陸) recent legal troubles, claiming that it is currently understanding the details of his cases and asked the public to be patient.
The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office (新北地檢署) investigated Wang in February for allegedly using false medical records to evade military service. Authorities released him on bail for NT$150,000, with plans for enlistment on March 13. However, reports emerged on Tuesday accusing Wang of inciting an assault on an Uber driver last April, leading to his NT$5 million bail release early Wednesday after being detained.
MOHK's response drew criticism from consumers, who argued that the brand's image suffers due to its collaboration with a controversial figure. Despite the backlash, MOHK's website and official Weibo account continue to feature Wang's endorsements. Many urged MOHK to sever ties with Wang to preserve its reputation.
Wang's endorsements and film projects in China face potential cancellations and contract terminations. Some Chinese online users estimated that up to five of his unreleased films and TV shows may result in substantial compensation claims. Additionally, Chinese authorities may label him as an "immoral artist."
