NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei's Sports Department (新北市政府體育局) on Wednesday (Feb. 26) announced five days of free access to gyms and swimming pools at the city's civil sports centers to celebrate Taiwan securing a spot in the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC).
Taiwan earned its place by defeating Spain in the WBC qualifiers a day earlier. Fans gathered at the New Taipei Civic Square (新北市民廣場) to support and cheer for the team. When Taiwan clinched the qualification, the square erupted in celebration.
To commemorate the victory further, New Taipei's Sports Department will offer free access to fitness and swimming facilities at New Taipei's civil sports centers from March 10 to 14.
During this period, these civil sports centers will also feature a limited-time, buy-one-get-one-free offer on sports courses, exclusively for on-site purchases, with a limit of one set per person.
Hou noted that some civil sports centers underwent maintenance in February, prompting the start of these celebratory activities in March. Residents can look forward to these events as a continuation of the community's enthusiasm and support for sports.
