TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Alliance for Advancement of Youth Rights and Welfare (台灣少年權益與福利促進聯盟) on Wednesday (Feb. 26) urged the government to address student mental health issues following the release of the General Scholastic Ability Test results (GSAT, 學科能力測驗) a day earlier.
The call, backed by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Lin Yueh-chin (林月琴), highlighted the anxiety caused by score comparisons on social media. During the press conference, the alliance called for improvements in student counseling services.
According to Chang Yu-chia (張祐嘉), deputy secretary-general of the alliance, social media has intensified the pressure on students. Chang noted that students fear not meeting expectations, which underscores the need for society to prioritize adolescent mental health.
Meanwhile, Tseng Ching-yao (曾敬堯), a student from Taipei Municipal Chien Kuo High School (臺北市立建國高級中學), shared that classmates' anxiety stems from family expectations, peer comparisons, and uncertainty about future education paths.
