TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Executive Yuan stated on Thursday (March 6) that the government respects diverse opinions on flexible holidays and will continue to consider public feedback for future policy references.
During a press conference, cabinet spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) addressed online debate after online discovered that Jan. 1, 2026, falls on a Thursday with no flexible holiday arrangement. The calendar preview, shared on the website "talllkai," quickly gained traction, amassing over a million views and thousands of comments in just one day.
Many online users expressed disappointment over the lack of a continuous holiday, with comments highlighting the frustration of not having a long weekend. While some acknowledged their fondness for extended holidays, they criticized the need to make up for them by working extra days.
Some commented that those wishing for time off should apply for leave individually. As discussions continue, the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration (人事行政總處) will monitor public opinion closely.
