TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A heated clash erupted among Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) legislators on Tuesday (Feb. 25) as they opened the legislative session with a protest against Premier Cho Jung-tai's (卓榮泰) policy report, interrupting his address.
KMT legislators held placards criticizing President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) recent BBQ party with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) legislators at the Official Residence of the President on Sunday (Feb. 23) while nursing staffs suffered from congestion in emergency departments and demanding cash handouts due to tax revenue surplus.
KMT legislator Wang Hung-wei (王鴻薇) highlighted issues like mocking remarks by Vice Minister Lin Ching-yi (林靜儀) towards medical staff. The confrontation with DPP legislators, including Chen Ting-fei (陳亭妃), escalated to shoving, prompting Legislative President Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) to pause proceedings and urge order.
The protest, which lasted about seven minutes, ended after Han repeatedly called for calm. Cho resumed his report once the KMT caucus returned to their seats and left the parliament. Fu criticized Cho, labeling his administration as part of a "fraudulent government" and calling for Lai to replace him with someone more capable.
