TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jui-tai (卓榮泰) urged Minister of Labor Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) to evaluate a comprehensive labor policy and manpower plan at the Legislative Yuan on Tuesday (Feb. 25). This call came as legislators voiced concerns about Taiwan's aging workforce.
Premier Cho addressed these concerns by highlighting how advancements in health and environmental care have allowed many individuals to remain active into retirement age. Taiwan's robust public health system, he noted, supports diverse life goals.
He also confirmed the extension of the "School for People in Their Third Chapter of Life" (第三人生大學試辦計畫) through city and community universities, offering educational opportunities for all age groups.
Wu Chun-cheng (吳春城) of the Taiwan People Party (TPP, 台灣民眾黨) pointed out that by 2024, Taiwan's population aged 65 and above had mirrored that of European and U.S. demographics. Wu advocated for reintegrating women and middle-aged individuals into the workforce to address the challenges of an aging population.
