TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) on Wednesday (Feb. 5) urged the central government to increase subsidies despite the Legislative Yuan (立法院) slashing NT$207.6 billion from the central budget.
Mayor Lu noted that the remaining NT$2.9 trillion still marks a historic high. Mayor Lu emphasized that the current budget surpasses former President Tsai Ing-wen's (蔡英文) era.
The completion ceremony for the Jinhua N. Rd. (進化北路) road and sidewalk improvement project took place with Mayor Lu, Legislator Johnny Chiang (江啟臣), and Deputy Interior Minister Tung Chien-hung (董建宏) in attendance.
Tung highlighted the Ministry of the Interior's (MOI, 內政部) need for legislative budget support and urged local leaders to leverage their influence. He stated that the project's total budget of NT$72 million received 82% funding from the ministry.
He called on legislators to unfreeze budget support. Tung stressed the ministry's desire to collaborate with local governments, which required substantial financial backing, and implored local leaders to persuade legislators to allocate a fair budget.
