TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs, J.W. Kuo (郭智輝), addressed the swirling rumors on Tuesday (Feb. 25), stating that the Department of Investment Review (投審會) has yet to receive any formal details about TSMC's (台積電) potential plans to build more fabs in the U.S., leaving the ministry unable to comment on the speculation.

Kuo emphasized that any discussions about TSMC's foreign investments would only occur once TSMC submits a formal report. He also noted that these issues involve foreign investment and require review by the ministry.

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on TSMC chips. In response, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) dispatched Deputy Minister Cynthia Kiang (江文若) to Washington, D.C., to engage in dialogue. Kuo mentioned that the delegation aimed to gather comprehensive intelligence for negotiation purposes, meeting with U.S. advisers and current and former officials.

When asked about market rumors suggesting the U.S. government desires a collaboration between TSMC and Intel to expand and accelerate investments in the U.S., Kuo stated that the ministry plans to wait for an official report before engaging in discussions.
