TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE, 台灣證券交易所) reported on Tuesday (Feb. 11) that the total revenue for all listed companies in January reached NT$3.5045 trillion, marking a 7.52% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth occurred despite the reduced working days due to the Lunar New Year holiday falling entirely in January.
TWSE noted that 504 companies experienced revenue growth, while 530 saw declines. Nearly half of the listed companies defied expectations by posting year-over-year revenue increases, even with fewer working days. TWSE attributed the growth in the green energy and environmental protection sectors to revenue recognition from ongoing projects.
The cement industry benefitted from the merger of companies, while the shipping industry saw revenue increases due to rising freight rates and heightened demand for shipments before the holiday. Conversely, the glass and ceramics industry declined due to a sluggish real estate market in China, and the paper industry saw revenue drops due to fewer working days and scheduled maintenance during the Lunar New Year. The steel industry struggled with weak end-user demand, contributing to its revenue decline.
