TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's machine tool industry anticipates a potential rebound in orders during the latter half of 2025, despite current economic uncertainties. Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessory Builders' Association (台灣工具機暨零組件公會) chairman on Monday (Jan. 13) projected a 5% to 10% annual growth in exports.
Speaking during the "2025 Machine Tool Industry Outlook" (2025工具機產業展望) conference in Taipei, Chairman Patrick Chen (陳伯佳) attributed this optimism to the U.S. manufacturing reshoring efforts and the Taipei International Machine Tool Show (台北國際工具機展) in March. He noted that despite global economic challenges, Taiwan's machine tool sector is demonstrating resilience and courage, actively seeking new opportunities and adopting a cautiously optimistic outlook for the future.
A recent survey by the association revealed mixed sentiments among its member companies. While 54% expect revenue growth this year and 32% foresee stability, only 50% anticipate export growth, with 27% predicting a decline. This reflects a cautious stance on exports, despite overall revenue optimism.
The survey showed a more optimistic revenue outlook in the components sector, with 87% expecting growth. However, export expectations remain conservative, with only 25% predicting growth. The components industry maintains competitive strength in niche markets, emphasizing the need to enhance technology and diversify markets for sustained development.
