TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A recent survey by yes123 job bank (yes123求職網) reveals that 91% of office workers plan to give red envelopes during the Lunar New Year celebrations for the Year of the Snake, slightly surpassing the 90.1% from the Year of the Dragon. The survey, conducted from Jan. 3-17, indicates an average budget of NT$11,901 for "lucky money," a slight increase from last year's NT$11,292.
Nearly half of the respondents, 49.4%, report maintaining the same budget as last year, while 30.9% plan to increase it. However, 19.7% intend to reduce their budget, citing reasons such as "rising living expenses" (85.2%), "no salary raise" (70.4%), and "concerns over reduced year-end bonuses" (43%). The primary recipients of these red envelopes include "parents and other elders" (78%) and "children and younger relatives" (44.6%).
Additionally, 66% of office workers plan to give gifts during the Lunar New Year, an increase from last year's 64%, with an average budget of NT$5,299. Among them, 46.4% will keep their budget steady, 27.8% will increase it, and 25.8% will decrease it. Gift recipients mainly include "relatives" (54.6%), "parents" (52.9%), and "general friends" (32.3%), with "pastry gift boxes" (39.1%), "snack gift boxes" (37.4%), and "fruit gift boxes" (35.3%) being popular choices.
The survey, targeting currently employed members, collected 1,277 valid responses with a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.74%.
