TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Three major media associations released a statement Sunday(Jan. 19), emphasizing the national budget cut's potential impact on industry development and employment rights. They urged the Legislative Yuan (立法院) to exercise caution while reviewing the 2025 central government budget. The review, which slashed NT$93.975 billion, includes media sector cuts.
The Satellite Television Broadcasting Association R.O.C. (中華民國衛星廣播電視事業商業同業公會), Taipei Association of Advertising Agencies (台北市廣告代理商業同業公會), and Media Agency Association (台北市媒體服務代理商協會) expressed concern over the budget cuts. They highlighted the possible operational challenges for the marketing and communication industry, which could affect the livelihoods of thousands of workers.
The associations stressed the need for stable policies and resource support amid digital transformation and heightened global competition. The associations called for comprehensive discussions and coordination during the budget review process to ensure the industry's robust development and the nation's economic progress. As the Legislative Yuan deliberates, the media associations' plea underscores the critical nature of the budget's impact on the industry and the broader economy.
