TAIPEI (TVBS News) — AmCham Taiwan (台灣美國商會) released its 2025 Business Climate Survey on Thursday (Jan. 16) in Taipei, revealing a strong sense of optimism among its members about Taiwan's economic future and company growth prospects. Dan Silver, the chamber's chairperson, expressed confidence in the country's potential, backed by strategic initiatives like digital transformation and innovation.
The survey found that 90% of respondents plan to maintain or increase their investment in Taiwan this year. Despite this optimism, regulatory challenges remain, with 37% of respondents citing inconsistent interpretations of laws and regulations as a major hurdle. About 57% of companies have committed to achieving net-zero emissions or using 100% renewable energy, though 78% expressed concerns about green energy supply.
Human capital emerges as a focus, with 55% of businesses planning to expand teams or invest in employee development in 2025. Members urged the government to prioritize talent retention to address demographic changes and enhance international competitiveness. Although they praised Taiwan's safety and stability, concerns linger about road safety, the banking system, and regulations not aligned with economic needs.
The survey underscores the chamber's stance that accelerating regulatory reforms and deepening international cooperation are crucial for Taiwan's resilience and prosperity. Approximately one-fifth of respondents identified government efficiency and transparency as key areas for improving Taiwan's business environment, while 35% believe Taiwan's regulatory framework has yet to meet international best practices.
