TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Compal Electronics Inc. (仁寶電腦) hosted its annual year-end banquet on Tuesday (Jan. 14), with Chairman Ray Chen (陳瑞聰) and General Manager Anthony Peter Bonadero addressing the media beforehand. The company discussed its expansion plans, AI server developments, and ongoing collaboration with Nvidia, despite geopolitical challenges and tariffs.
Anthony Peter Bonadero highlighted the company's optimism about the future AI market, stating that although geopolitical tensions and tariffs pose challenges, Compal maintains a strong relationship with Nvidia. Bonadero noted that the company will continue to build collaboration with Nvidia for at least the next 15 years.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government announced AI chip export controls a day earlier. Although Taiwan holds a Tier 1 designation, the semiconductor industry may still face significant impacts. Bonadero acknowledged Nvidia's response to the announcement and agreed that these measures would restrict the market, requiring further discussion on strategies to adapt to future changes.
Chen revealed Compal's strategy to mitigate geopolitical and tariff risks by expanding production outside China. The company is establishing factories in nine countries, including Vietnam, Poland, the U.S., India, Brazil, and Mexico. Also, Compal is shifting its focus to high-value products and reducing reliance on contract manufacturing. By 2025, Compal aims to fully digitize its operations, enhancing design efficiency, product quality through automation, and AI integration in supply chain management.
