KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung's Department of Health (高雄市政府衛生局) on Monday (Jan. 6) urged travelers who rode Taiwan High Speed Rail's (THSR, 台灣高鐵) Train No. 160 from Zuoying (左營) to Taichung (台中) on Dec. 28, and Train No. 153 from Taichung to Zuoying on Dec. 31, to contact the department.
This appeal follows the Centers for Disease Control's (疾管署) confirmation on Jan. 3 of a local measles case in central Taiwan.
The infectious individual who traveled between central Taiwan and Kaohsiung has raised concerns due to the contagious nature of measles. The Department of Health emphasized that measles can spread through air, droplets, and contact with an infected person's secretions, remaining infectious four days before and after the rash appears.
Health officials warned that measles has an incubation period of 7 to 18 days, with symptoms like fever and cough typically appearing 10 to 12 days after exposure. The rash generally emerges around 14 days post-contact. They advised anyone experiencing measles-like symptoms to contact their local health office for medical arrangements promptly.
For assistance, the public can contact the Kaohsiung Health Department's epidemic prevention hotline at 07-7230250 or the CDC's toll-free line at 1922.
