KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung (高雄) is gearing up for its annual New Year's Eve celebration at Dream Mall (夢時代廣場), with extended metro and light rail services to manage the expected influx of attendees. The Kaohsiung MRT (高雄捷運) will operate until 2 a.m., while the light rail will run until 1:30 a.m. next Tuesday (Dec. 31).
To facilitate smooth travel, the Kaohsiung MRT suggests attendees take the metro to the R6 Kaisyuan Station (凱旋站) and walk to the venue from Exit 3. The station will only accept electronic ticketing, and single-journey tickets will not be available. Starting at 4:30 p.m., the MRT will increase train frequency to every four minutes, with additional adjustments after midnight.
The MRT advises against bringing foldable bicycles, and bicycle ticket sales will cease at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31. Additionally, items such as glowing balloons are prohibited in stations. As crowds are expected to swell after 4:30 p.m., Kaohsiung MRT and light rail will increase service frequency to accommodate the surge.
The New Year's Eve event boasts performances by K-pop legend Sandara Park (朴山多拉) and Taiwanese artists Lala Hsu (徐佳瑩), Crowd Lu (盧廣仲), Accusefive (告五人), and Fire EX (滅火器). Baseball heroes Chang Cheng-yu (張政禹) and Chen Po-ching (陳柏清) will also join the festivities.
