TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Health Insurance Administration (NHI, 健保署) has recently issued a directive to medical institutions and pharmacies across Taiwan. Starting Jan. 15, patients with chronic conditions scheduled for follow-up visits during the Lunar New Year holiday can refill their prescriptions early.

This measure aims to ensure patients have access to necessary medications from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2, the NHI stressed.

Chen Chih-fang (陳智芳), director of the pharmacy department at Makay Memorial Hospital (馬偕醫院), emphasized the importance of this temporary policy adjustment, and encouraged patients to utilize online appointment systems for prescription refills, minimizing the risk of medication disruption.

With the Lunar New Year approaching, Chen advised patients to review their current medication supplies diligently to avoid running out of essential medicines during the holiday break.
