TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei District Prosecutors Office (台北地檢署) on Friday (Dec. 20) charged Yang Chin-ping (楊錦屏), a Taiwanese woman, with attempted murder for allegedly poisoning an Australian man three times. Prosecutors seek an eight-year sentence. The case traces back to April 2023, when an Australian exchange student, Alexander Shorey, accidentally ingested rat poison at Yang's residence, prompting an investigation.
Authorities first searched Yang's home in May 2023, uncovering evidence related to the poisoning. Yang claimed she purchased the rat poison to consume herself due to depression after her husband's death. However, investigators found no marriage records for Yang in Taiwan, subsequently restricting her from leaving the country.
In early 2024, a British man reported his brother missing for over a year. Investigators discovered Yang had a British ex-husband who died in early 2023 under suspicious circumstances involving poisoning. This revelation led to another search of Yang's residence in March 2024, where police found suspected human remains, which have been sent for forensic analysis.
