TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Federation of Teachers Unions (NFTU, 全國教師工會總聯合會) urged Labor Minister Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) on Tuesday (Nov. 26) to implement a unified Labor Day holiday. The federation expressed hope Hung, who assumed his position on Monday, will uphold labor rights and protect workers' fundamental rights.
The federation called on Hung to impartially reopen investigations into bullying incidents within the Ministry of Labor (勞動部). They stressed the need for a swift resolution to uncover the truth. Moreover, they suggested adopting measures similar to South Korea's anti-workplace bullying law, strengthening employer accountability, and imposing harsher penalties, thereby institutionalizing workplace bullying complaints.
The federation highlighted the importance of revising outdated regulations to allow civil servants to form unions. Meanwhile, they emphasized the need to ensure pension sustainability and intergenerational justice. Also, they advocated for legal reforms to create a family-friendly environment, such as introducing paid flexible parental leave and parental education leave.
Addressing the national security crisis posed by a declining birth rate, the federation urged bold reforms to improve the structure of labor insurance. They emphasized the importance of returning fund management to a scientific basis. These recommendations aim to foster a supportive environment for workers and families, aligning with modern labor needs.
