TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Labor groups urged newly appointed Labor Minister Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) on Monday (Nov. 25) to break from traditional thinking and implement significant reforms to create a labor environment befitting an advanced democratic nation. The "New Taipei City Industrial Union" (新北市產業總工會) expressed its willingness to support Hung, a social activist, in his new role.
Hung's primary task involves addressing the suspected bullying-related suicide of a Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) civil servant, which led to the resignation of former Labor Minister Ho Pei-shan (何佩珊). The union pointed out that Taiwan's workplaces still face exploitation, labor dispatching, and insufficient labor education. They expect Hung to tackle these problems head-on.
The union emphasized the severity of workplace harassment and bullying, urging Hung to amend regulations and foster a more humane work environment. They highlighted the necessity for the MOL to promote the prevention and prohibition of bullying, supporting Hung's efforts to cultivate a new workplace culture in Taiwan.
The "Taiwan Workers' Alliance General Union" (台灣工人鬥陣總工會) recently issued a press release, hoping Hung will adhere to his social movement ideals by addressing low wages, increasing national holidays, preventing workplace bullying, and lowering union thresholds. Labor groups anticipate Hung's commitment to protecting grassroots and disadvantaged workers.
