TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) returned to Taiwan on Tuesday (Nov. 26) after attending the Halifax International Security Forum (HISF, 哈利法克斯國際安全論壇) in Canada. Her visit, which began last Wednesday evening, marks her second overseas trip since leaving office.
Upon arrival, she waved to the media but did not make any statements. Tsai attended the forum as the recipient of the John McCain Public Service Leadership Award, highlighting her ongoing influence on international diplomacy.
Tsai announced during the forum that Taiwan will host the forum in February 2025, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan's international engagement. She expressed gratitude to countries and friends advocating for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
During the forum, Tsai delivered a keynote speech and received the McCain award, which she won in 2021. She also met with international friends and Taiwanese expatriates. In her address, Tsai emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing global uncertainties and finding solutions to conflicts. She urged democratic nations to collaborate more closely against authoritarian regimes.
Tsai underscored the importance of solidarity for Taiwan's security and democracy. She thanked key countries, including Canada, for exercising freedom of navigation rights in the Taiwan Strait, noting its significance for Taiwan's safety and international free trade.
