NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Authorities in New Taipei City on Monday (Nov. 11) revealed they have identified four civilian heroes who intervened during a knife attack at the Xinpu Station of the Taipei Metro's Bannan Line last Friday. The Haishan Precinct (海山分局) confirmed that the individuals helped subdue the attacker, a woman surnamed Wang, who injured a high school student.
Officials used surveillance footage and EasyCard data to identify the individuals. The Haishan Precinct reported that they confirmed the identity of a doctor surnamed Lee (李) on Saturday, a chef surnamed Chien (簡) on Sunday, and a financial worker surnamed Li (黎) on Nov. 11.
All four men, three residing in Banqiao and one in Shulin, were returning home from Taipei City when they encountered the incident. New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) has instructed that these men receive recognition for their bravery. The city will award them free rides on the New Taipei Metro and a monetary reward.
The Haishan Precinct has verified their identities and contacted them, forwarding the information to the Criminal Investigation Division of the New Taipei City Police Department for a public commendation. As the city prepares to honor these individuals, the incident highlights the courage of ordinary citizens in the face of danger.
