NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City's Department of Rapid Transit System (新北捷運局) announced on Wednesday (Oct. 2) that they hope to finalize contracts for the Xizhi-Donghu MRT line (汐止東湖線) and begin construction by the end of this year, aiming for completion by 2032.
The department revealed that it opened bids on Oct. 1, and after meeting the legal requirements, the bidders' qualifications all met the necessary standards.
Lee Cheng-an (李政安), the department's director, explained that the main construction of the Xizhi-Donghu MRT line will use a turnkey contract, combining civil engineering and electromechanical systems to reduce the construction period.
He noted that the department adjusted the project based on market prices and included the Shehou Depot (社后機廠) in the expansion, showing the budget aligns with market conditions.
The department confirmed that the number of bidders met legal requirements. Following the qualification review and selection process, the next steps will include finalizing the contract and completing various procedures.
New Taipei City also plans to integrate the Keelung MRT (基隆捷運) with the Xizhi-Donghu MRT into a single system, taking responsibility for its construction.
The turnkey project includes civil, architectural, core electromechanical systems, water and electricity, and environmental control engineering, with the route extending from Neihu District, Taipei City, to Xizhi District.
The Xizhi-Donghu line spans 5.56 kilometers, with 4.75 kilometers in New Taipei City and 0.81 kilometers in Taipei City, featuring six elevated stations.
