TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An oral and maxillofacial surgeon on Thursday (Nov. 14) spoke out against objectification, asserting that society should not restrict personal expression outside professional roles. Dr. Evienne Hong (唐櫻翠) emphasized that traditional stereotypes should not hinder societal development and advocated the freedom to dress confidently and stylishly.
Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Legislator Wang Hung-wei (王鴻薇) accused Minister without Portfolio Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) of participating in a controversial dinner with women present. Former Deputy Health and Welfare Minister Victor Wang (王必勝) clarified that the event was organized by the Taiwan Dental Association (牙醫師公會全聯會) and mainly attended by dentists and physicians.
Hong, who was secretly photographed, defended her choice to wear a favorite gown for the dinner, where she engaged with medical professionals from various fields. Hong expressed confidence in her expertise as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and hoped women would no longer face objectification. She aspired to respect across all genders, urging that no one should be used as a tool to undermine others and that everyone should have the opportunity to shine in their respective fields.
Cheng Hsin Hospital (振興醫院) Acting Director of the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Tien Chih-hsueh (田知學), revealed on Facebook that she was one of the women unknowingly photographed.
