TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced Tuesday (Oct. 22) plans for a comprehensive review of bus fares, aiming for reasonable adjustments and effective communication.

The announcement follows the Taipei and New Taipei Bus Association's proposal earlier in October to increase fares, with Taipei City suggesting NT$29.2463 and New Taipei City reporting over NT$27, expected to finalize by year-end.

Hou emphasized the importance of a thorough review process to ensure the fare adjustments align with public needs. As media inquiries arose regarding continued fare subsidies, Hou revealed the city government's long-term subsidy support for bus operators and plans to adjust subsidies through a complete review.

Since 2022, Taipei and New Taipei joint bus fares have been adjusted to NT$23.4704, while ticket prices remain at NT$15, with the government subsidizing the difference. The fare structure is reviewed every two years.
