TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) confirmed on Wednesday (Oct. 30) that the Twin City Forum with Shanghai, scheduled for this year in Taipei, will likely occur in December. Despite strained cross-strait relations and closed official communication channels between Taipei and Beijing, Chiang said the city government will strive to continue the forum.
Speaking at a legislative budget report earlier that day, Mayor Chiang acknowledged the challenging atmosphere but emphasized the city's commitment to dialogue with Shanghai. He reassured that efforts to communicate with Shanghai remain ongoing, aiming to maintain the forum's tradition and effectiveness. As Taipei prepares to host, officials anticipate further discussions to finalize the event details.
Historically, either the deputy mayor or the mayor has attended the forum, which has proven beneficial. The forum, initiated in 2010, alternates annually between Taipei and Shanghai, typically taking place in July or August, with two instances in December.
