TAITUNG (TVBS News) — Typhoon Kong-Rey (康芮) has prompted the cancellation of ferry services between Taitung (台東) and Green Island (綠島) from 12:30 p.m. Monday (Oct. 28) until Oct. 31, according to the latest announcement from EZboat (船遊網).
Kong-Rey, the 21st typhoon of the year, is currently moving westward across the sea east of the Philippines and poses a potential direct threat to Taiwan. The company cited safety concerns due to the typhoon's outer bands affecting Taiwan's eastern regions.
EZboat stated that ferry services after Nov. 1 will depend on the sea conditions, and the captain will decide whether to resume ferry services.
The impending typhoon has spurred action among local stakeholders. Dockside, food suppliers hurriedly transported provisions to Lyudao Primary School (綠島國小) to ensure an uninterrupted supply of ingredients for school lunches. Meanwhile, fishermen at Fugang Fishing Harbor (富岡漁港) have taken preemptive measures to secure their boats, reinforcing them to prevent collision and damage.
