TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) on Thursday (Oct. 17) announced plans to set the low-wage standard at NT$31,000, aligning with two-thirds of the median total wages of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Labor Minister Ho Pei-shan (何佩珊) and officials from the Executive Yuan (行政院) discussed domestic wage levels at the Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee (立法院社會福利及衛生環境委員會). Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Lin Shu-fen (林淑芬) criticized the Workforce Development Agency (勞動力發展署) under MOL for offering low-paying jobs with a monthly salary of just NT$29,000.
The minister stated that the monthly salary for MOL in certain positions would increase to NT$32,000 next year. She urged legislators to support the budget, which already includes funds for this salary adjustment. The Executive Yuan's "Economic Development Conference" (經濟發展會議) advisors recently suggested defining low-wage workers and considering salary transparency to tackle the low-wage issue.
